Jeffersonville, Indiana – (June 25, 2018) – GE Appliances has added a large warehouse at the River Ridge Commerce Center in Southern Indiana.

The company leased a 305,760-square-foot warehouse on May 1, according to data from Cushman & Wakefield-Commercial Kentucky. The company plans to use this space as a temporary inventory holding location, GE Appliances said in an emailed statement. The location was selected because it is close to a Jeffersonville warehouse where the company distributes parts.

GE Appliances said it doesn’t plan any major investments in the property or many new hires. A few GE Appliances leaders and a handful of temporary workers are in the building now to get it set up. The company is still going through the sourcing process to determine who will operate the facility. It will have a small workforce of 15 to 20 people there.

The space is being leased from Pinchal & Co., a Houston, Texas, firm that owns about 5 million square feet of industrial space. It has sites in Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee and multiple other states, according to its website.

GE Appliances is headquartered at Appliance Park in Louisville. It builds dishwashers, refrigerators and laundry machines and also has its design, engineering and management positions there. The company employs about 6,000 workers in the area.

GE Appliances was sold by General Electric Co. to China-based Qingdao Haier Co. Ltd. two years ago. I recently interviewed the CEO of GE Appliances and the president of Qingdao Haier about the companies’ integration efforts and future together.
