RRDA Board approves increase to previous Fire Protection offer
Jeffersonville, IN (March 14, 2025) – The River Ridge Development Authority (RRDA) has voted to significantly increase its public safety partnership with the City of Jeffersonville, further reinforcing its commitment to regional growth and community well-being.
After Jeffersonville leadership passed on an original offer of $1.0 million and attempted to pursue the Fire Territory, RRDA’s Board of Directors yesterday approved an increase to $1.7 million for fire protection services to the Jeffersonville Fire Department. If accepted, this investment will strengthen emergency response capabilities and ensure continued protection for businesses and employees within the River Ridge Commerce Center (RRCC) and surrounding areas.
This action follows the RRDA’s approval at the February board meeting of a contract in the amount of $498,000 to support the Jeffersonville Police Department. This funding continues the long-standing partnership between River Ridge and the city’s law enforcement, enhancing security and public safety efforts across the region.
“These investments reaffirm our commitment to fostering a safe and thriving business environment,” said Jerry Acy, Executive Director of the RRDA. “Public safety is a critical component of economic development, and our partnerships with the Jeffersonville Fire and Police Departments are essential to sustaining growth and attracting new businesses.”
This offer follows River Ridge’s numerous contributions to the City of Jeffersonville, totaling nearly $18 million since 2007. Included in these investments are $12.0 million towards the expansion of the wastewater treatment plant (2023); 79 acres of land for Chapel Lake Park, appraised at $2.24 million (2018); and the recent donation of 5.0 acres for a new fire station valued at $600,000 (2024).
Additionally, the 2024 Economic Impact Analysis completed by Policy Analytics, Inc. shows River Ridge employees provide annual revenue collections to the City of Jeffersonville through local income taxes. Last year this revenue added $1.4 million to the City’s annual budget. Regionally, the overall economic impact of the activities at River Ridge were estimated at $2.96 billion to the regional economy, and employees within the Commerce Center earn over $895 million annually in disposable income.
The RRDA remains dedicated to strategic investments that enhance infrastructure, job creation, and economic growth in Southern Indiana. The RRDA commits a proactive approach to supporting both public services and commercial development.
